TMJ
Relief from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder using Botox
Botox is a minimally invasive treatment option for TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder that involves injecting the jaw muscles with Botox to temporarily paralyze them and reduce tension. This can help relieve pain and discomfort, and can also prevent teeth grinding, which can make TMJ symptoms worse. Botox injections can be performed in a matter of minutes and don't require incisions or anesthesia.
Botox is often recommended as a complementary treatment to other TMJ therapies, such as physical therapy or night guards. However, in some cases, Botox may be all that's needed to help relax the muscles around the TMJ. The effects of Botox for TMJ can last up to three months, and patients may need at least three injection sessions over the course of several months. Treatment can cost anywhere from $500–$1,500 or more.
Side effects of Botox for TMJ may include sun burning, bruising, and very rarely, some asymmetry of the face muscles.
